THE DONOR BILL OF RIGHTS
We, as the Cultural Awareness Foundation, believe that making donations is a voluntary act, and that giving and taking enhances our quality of life. We advocate and support the rights of donors, based on our conviction that the public’s trust in, and appreciation of NGOs and their projects, bear great importance for the sustainability of civil society’s efforts, which is also a prerequisite for the actual and potential donors’ making informed and purposeful decisions in making their donations. Therefore, we recognise the below donors’ rights:
Donors’ Rights:
- To be informed of the NGO’s mission and vision, the planned use of the donation, the NGO’s capacity and intention to effectively use the donation for the intended purposes;
- To obtain information about the NGO Board of Directors and its members, and expect that they fulfil their responsibilities with prudence and diligence;
- To have access to the updated financial data;
- To request guarantee that the donated resources will be used for the purposes for which the donation is given;
- To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition;
- To be assured that information about their donation is handled with confidentiality to the extent provided by law,
- To expect that all relationships with individuals representing organisations of interest to the donor will be professional in nature.
- To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization or hired solicitors;
- To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from communication lists that an organization may intend to share;
- To feel free to ask questions when making a donation and to receive prompt, truthful and forthright answers.
