The Beşiktaş Local History Project is a project aimed at documenting and archiving the history of Beşiktaş's residential areas during the Imperial and Republican periods, and the human structure spanning four generations from the early 20th century to the present, along with its social and cultural values and everyday life practices.
The project includes a wealth of unique information compiled from archival work and oral history interviews conducted so far, covering the current boundaries of the Beşiktaş district and its nearby surroundings. Under various themes, the project's content reflects the social history of Beşiktaş, the transformations the city has undergone, buildings that have disappeared or changed identity, artists who passed through the area, old restaurants, and much more.
With this project, it is aimed not only to contribute to the development of a sense of locality, neighborhood, community, citizenship, and urban awareness among the residents of Beşiktaş and Istanbul, but also to encourage contributions to neighborhood and city history through personal memories, experiences, letters, diaries, and photographs from family albums.
