CARBON FOOTPRINT FORESTS PROJECT (ONGOING)

Cultural Awareness Foundation and FEST Travel continue to erase our carbon footprints

Global warming is accelerating rapidly, forested areas are being destroyed one after another, and our future is becoming increasingly threatened each day. In response, we are working to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases released into nature as a result of our industrial activities and consumption habits — and to compensate for the damage as much as possible.

Between 2012 and 2018, Cultural Awareness Foundation, in collaboration with FEST Travel and with the support of countless nature lovers, established four forest areas in İzmit and Kırklareli as part of the Carbon Footprint Forests Project. The first forest area, consisting of 2,000 trees, was planted in Körfez in 2012. This was followed by 2,000 trees in Lüleburgaz in 2016, 10,000 trees in Babaeski in 2017, and another 10,000-tree forest in Dereköy in 2018. Thanks to donations from nature supporters, a total area of 13.4 hectares was afforested. Each forest opening was celebrated with large-scale sapling planting ceremonies and nature walks.

In 2017, the third forest, created in Babaeski, was named after Prof. Dr. Faik Yaltırık (1930–2016), a distinguished scientist who made significant contributions to the development of botanical studies in Türkiye. His daughter, Rengigül Ural, also attended the forest’s inauguration ceremony.

In 2019, the Foundation expanded the Carbon Footprint Forests Project with the goal of afforesting a total of 100 hectares in Kırklareli. Thanks to the support of donors dedicated to protecting natural life, and in collaboration with the Istanbul Regional Directorate of Forestry, the efforts culminated in the creation of a single, continuous Carbon Footprint Forest in Lüleburgaz, Kırklareli, consisting of 150,685 saplings.

We are committed to leading our country and the world toward a green and natural future — not toward toxic emissions.
